Classifications for Patches
Purpose of Classification System
The APA patch system has experienced many changes throughout the years. Several patches have multiple versions available for a particular achievement, while many more differ based on their format, type, and category, among other factors. To make navigating and understanding this site easier, we have classified the specific information for each APA patch using the following system.
FormatAPA currently has three Formats:
8-Ball 9-Ball Masters "N/A" - This "not applicable" designation applies to patches which don't fall under any of the above criteria (Sportsmanship or Top Gun patches, for example). |
TypeWithin the formats, there are several Types of play where patches can be awarded. To streamline things, these Types are classified below:
Individual - patch awarded to a player for a solo achievement. Doubles - patch awarded to partners in types of play such as Scotch Doubles, Jack and Jill, etc. Team - patch awarded to members of a team for a combined achievement. Includes co-ed, ladies, and junior leagues. |
CategorySome patches are awarded for one-time achievements, while others signify the efforts of a whole session or even your entire APA career. We have divided these into the following Categories:
Weekly - A player may qualify for this patch during any match of weekly play, including playoffs. Tournament - Special versions of a patch may be awarded for achievements during Cities, Tri-Cup, Regionals, Nationals, Mini Mania, or other HLT (Higher Level Tournaments). Session - Mostly, these patches require a player to perform at a high level for an entire session. However, "Slam" patches require certain criteria to be met within a scheduled session. Lifetime - These patches mark milestones that you may reach at some point during your APA career, such as SL7, SL9, or 1000 matches played. "N/A" - This "not applicable" designation applies to patches which don't fall under any of the above criteria (Happy Holidays or Breast Cancer Awareness patches, for example). |
